Mandwa Ferry Scare: 130 Passengers Rescued After Boat Springs Leak Mid-Sea
A major mishap was narrowly averted on Friday evening when a passenger boat operated by Ajantha Company developed a leak mid-sea while en route from Gateway of India to Mandwa.
According to reports, the boat carrying around 130 passengers departed from Gateway of India at approximately 5:30 PM. As the vessel approached 1 to 1.5 kilometres off the Mandwa Jetty, strong sea winds and high waves caused damage to the fibre body of the boat, resulting in a hole that led to water entering the vessel.
Sensing the danger, passengers onboard immediately contacted authorities at Mandwa Jetty, seeking urgent assistance. Responding swiftly, rescue teams dispatched speed boats to the spot and successfully transferred all 130 passengers to safety at Mandwa Jetty.
The passenger boat was also towed safely to the Mandwa Jetty area by the rescue team. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. Prompt action by the rescue teams ensured that a potentially serious situation was brought under control in time.
