An inspiring incident from Mira Bhayandar has won praise across the city after an auto-rickshaw driver displayed remarkable honesty by returning a bag filled with jewellery worth nearly Rs 15 lakh. The driver, identified as Chandrashekar Yadav, found the valuables after a passenger accidentally left the bag inside his rickshaw. Instead of keeping the ornaments, Yadav immediately approached the police and helped trace the rightful owner. His noble gesture was widely appreciated on social media after Mumbai News shared the incident on X. The post included visuals of officials honouring him for his integrity and applauding his responsible and honest conduct in public service.
Chandrashekar Yadav was later felicitated by the police along with Iqbal Mahadik, President of VBA Mira Bhayandar, for his commendable act. During the ceremony, officials praised the driver for setting an example of honesty at a time when such incidents are rarely seen. He was presented with a bouquet and a cheque as a token of appreciation for returning the expensive jewellery without any hesitation. According to reports, the passenger had unknowingly left the bag in the rickshaw during travel. After discovering it, Yadav ensured the valuables were safely handed over with police assistance, earning admiration from both authorities and local residents alike.
In another recent example of honesty, a Station Manager and his railway team at Kalyan helped reunite a passenger with lost belongings containing cash and jewellery worth several lakhs. Officials found a jacket and a suspicious bag near the Head Booking Clerk’s office and immediately informed the Deputy Station Manager on duty. Upon inspection, the bag was discovered to contain Rs 12,060 in cash along with jewellery valued at nearly Rs 4 lakh. With assistance from the Railway Protection Force, the passenger was traced to Kasara. After verifying ownership details, railway officials safely returned all the belongings, highlighting their commitment towards duty and passenger safety.
A similar incident had also taken place last year when another auto-rickshaw driver returned gold ornaments worth around Rs 16 lakh to a passenger in Navi Mumbai. The driver was operating on the Vashi–Juhugaon route when he noticed a bag left behind inside the vehicle. On checking, he found valuable items including a mangalsutra, rings, anklets and several gold ornaments. Instead of misusing the valuables, the driver informed the local rickshaw union and contacted the police for assistance. Authorities later traced the owner and returned the jewellery safely. The incident was widely appreciated and once again highlighted the honesty shown by several public transport workers.
