In a significant operation against illegal immigration, Mumbai Police have apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly staying in the city with forged identity papers on February 8. Officials stated that the arrests followed a series of coordinated raids conducted in the Pathanwadi locality of Malad East. The action was part of an intensified drive to identify and act against foreign nationals residing unlawfully within city limits.
Police said the crackdown began after an officer from the Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC), attached to Kurar Police Station, received credible intelligence about Bangladeshi nationals living in the area using fabricated documents to conceal their identities. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, teams carried out joint operations on February 2, 4 and 6, detaining four individuals from different spots in Pathanwadi.
During sustained questioning, the suspects allegedly confessed to being Bangladeshi citizens who had entered India without valid travel or immigration papers. Preliminary inquiries resulted in the seizure of documents establishing their Bangladeshi links. Authorities have initiated deportation procedures and are in the process of securing a Restriction Order from the concerned departments to facilitate their lawful repatriation.
