In a major crackdown against narcotics, Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has arrested a 41-year-old man from the Dharavi area and seized a substantial quantity of banned drugs.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Wasim Mohammad Saeed Khan, was caught with 104 grams of mephedrone (MD), a synthetic drug, estimated to be worth ₹26 lakh in the international market.

Police officials said the action was carried out on the night of March 30 after receiving specific information from a reliable source about a drug supply deal near the Dharavi bus depot. Acting on the tip-off, a special team was formed after obtaining approval from senior officers, and a trap was laid following due legal procedures in the presence of independent witnesses.

At around 10:15 pm, the suspect arrived at the spot and was immediately intercepted by the police team. He attempted to escape but was swiftly apprehended. A search of his person led to the recovery of a plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance, which was later confirmed to be mephedrone.

The police have also seized the accused’s mobile phone and other digital evidence. During interrogation, he revealed the name of his alleged supplier, Furkan Ali, who is currently absconding.

A case has been registered at Dharavi Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway. Police believe the arrest could help unravel a larger drug trafficking network operating in the city.
