Mumbai: Auto Driver Bites On-Duty Policeman Inside Mulund Police Station
In a shocking incident at the Mulund Police Station, an auto-rickshaw driver allegedly attacked a police constable and bit his hand when he was being pacified after creating a ruckus inside the station premises. A case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway.
According to police sources, the complainant, Police Constable Santosh Bhagoji Bhalekar (49), is posted as a routine writer at the Mulund Police Station. On Thursday around 1 pm, a police patrol team brought in the accused, identified as Jitendra Kumar Mahapatra (37), an auto-rickshaw driver, after he was found shouting and creating a disturbance in the Amar Nagar area.
Even after being brought to the police station, Mahapatra continued to behave aggressively and created a commotion inside the inquiry room. As other officers on duty were occupied attending to complainants, Constable Bhalekar approached the accused to calm him down.
However, in a fit of rage, the accused allegedly lunged at Bhalekar and bit his left wrist forcefully, causing injuries.
Following the incident, Bhalekar sought immediate medical treatment at a nearby hospital. The police have registered a case against Mahapatra for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty and voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant.
Further investigation into the matter is in progress.
