A shocking case of a civic employee allegedly securing employment on the basis of forged educational certificates has come to light. The Bhoiwada Police have registered an offence against the accused under Sections 420, 465, 468, 471 and 417 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the complaint, the accused is an employee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation who allegedly submitted fake mark sheets and certificates of the Sanitation Inspector course while obtaining a job in 1993. Based on these documents, the accused reportedly entered service and was later working on the post of coordinator.

The complaint has been lodged by Shailaja Chandrakant Ubalkar (55), who is serving as a Chief Clerk in the civic body. Following a complaint received in April 2025, the authenticity of the submitted documents was verified with the All India Institute of Local Self Government. During the verification process, the certificates were found to be suspicious.

Subsequently, the civic administration ordered a departmental inquiry and placed the concerned employee under suspension. As the case involved alleged cheating and misrepresentation of facts to mislead the municipal authorities, an official police complaint was filed.

Further investigation in the matter has been handed over to Assistant Police Inspector Yashwant Bhalchandra Chavan. The incident has raised serious questions about the recruitment process within the civic body, and authorities have indicated that similar cases may also be scrutinised. Further investigation is underway.
