A car accident occurred on Mumbai's Bandra-Worli Sea Link during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, causing traffic delays for about two hours. The accident apparently featured a white Skoda SUV colliding with an object from the front, causing damage and slowing traffic flow on the Sea Link's northbound lane. Following the incident, images from the scene emerged on social media, showing Mumbai Police and traffic officials removing the damaged vehicle and restoring regular traffic flow on the busy highway, reported Free Press Journal.

Initially, the Mumbai Traffic Police posted a message informing commuters of the delay: "Traffic Movement Is Slow At Worli Sealink North Bound Due To Car Accident." Later, a follow-up message verified, "Now Traffic Is Clear," implying that the route had been completely restored.

The incident happened at approximately 1.45 AM while the three were travelling back to Ghatkopar from the Haji Ali area in south Mumbai, according to PTI. The 30-year-old businessman, who lives in Ghatkopar, had gone out for the evening with two pals, ages 32 and 47. According to PTI, the driver lost control of the car during their return trip over the sea link, causing a high-impact accident with the central divider.

The collision caused injuries to all three of the car's occupants. Although the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed, emergency personnel were notified right away. Shortly after, Worli police arrived on the scene and made arrangements for the injured people to be taken to a hospital for medical attention.

The businessman and his companions were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, according to PTI, which was later validated by preliminary medical testing. Since then, the police have filed a complaint against the motorist in accordance with the relevant Motor Vehicles Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections.

A similar event was reported on the sea link in December last year. On December 13, four vehicles crashed owing to excessive speed during the afternoon hours. While there were no injuries in that accident, the crash caused significant damage to the vehicles involved, causing temporary traffic jams until the wreckage was cleared. The Worli Police filed a case against an Innova driver named Kishor Shirwadkar after receiving a complaint from a police officer present at the scene. According to the investigation, the collision occurred about 11:30 AM when Shirwadkar speeding Innova rear-ended a Skoda, which then collided with another vehicle, causing a chain reaction that also injured a fourth vehicle. Police had responded quickly to the earlier incident, securing the scene and launching an investigation. The sequence of events was reconstructed using eyewitness testimony and preliminary forensics, and official charges were brought against the Innova driver.Open in app
