In a shocking incident in Mumbai’s Powai area, four unidentified men allegedly posing as police officers robbed a delivery boy working for a forex company of foreign currency worth several lakh rupees. The accused reportedly took the victim along on the pretext of questioning him and fled with 7,590 US dollars (approximately ₹6.5 lakh).

Following the incident, the victim lodged a complaint at the Powai Police Station. The police have registered a case against four unidentified persons and launched an investigation.

According to the police, the victim, Salman Abbas Shaikh (31), resides with his family in Vikhroli East, and works as a delivery boy at Navrang Forex, located in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai. The company deals in the exchange of foreign currency into Indian currency and vice versa.

As per the complaint, on March 14, 2026, at around 3:40 pm, a person contacted the company’s office mobile number via WhatsApp and placed an order to exchange 7,590 US dollars. The caller asked the company to send a representative with the cash.

After receiving permission from the company owner, Salman left for the location along with his colleague Armaan Shaikh, carrying the dollars. At around 5 pm, the two reached Building and inquired with the security guard about Room No. 303. However, the guard informed them that no such flat number existed in the building, raising their suspicion.

Meanwhile, Armaan stepped outside the building gate when two men suddenly approached and caught hold of him, claiming to be police officers. Armaan signaled Salman to leave the spot immediately, but at the same time two other men entered the premises and asked Salman to accompany them.

When Salman asked for proof that they were police officers, one of the accused showed him a ribbon hanging around his neck with the word “Maharashtra” written on it and said, “Can’t you see?”

The accused then stopped an auto-rickshaw and forced Salman to sit inside it, while two other accomplices followed them on a scooter.

During the ride, one of the accused made a phone call. According to Salman, the mobile screen displayed the name “ACP Aparna.” The accused spoke in Marathi, saying that they had found the person and that he had the “material” with him, and they were bringing him along.

The accused first took Salman towards the SEEPZ area in Andheri and later headed towards Jogeshwari. After some time, they stopped the rickshaw near the Jogeshwari Bridge, forced Salman to get down, and fled with the 7,590 US dollars kept in his bag.

A frightened Salman managed to leave the spot and contacted his colleague Armaan. Later, accompanied by his employer, he approached the Powai Police Station and filed a complaint about the incident. The victim also provided the police with descriptions of the four accused.

The Powai Police have registered a case of cheating and robbery against unknown persons and have started scanning nearby CCTV footage as part of the investigation. Preliminary inquiry suggests that the accused may have gathered prior information about the forex delivery system and executed the crime as part of a well-planned conspiracy.
