Mumbai–Goa Highway Traffic Update: 2 Killed, 38 Injured After Bus Overturns in Sukeli Ghat; Long Jams Reported
Huge traffic jams were reported on the Mumbai-Goa highway after a private passenger bus overturned in the early hours of Friday, April 3, resulting in the deaths of two passengers and about 38 were seriously injured. The accident that took place near the Sukeli Ghat in Raigad's Nagothane led to long queues of vehicles stranded on the crucial highway.
The accident occurred at a narrow turn near the ghats section when a passenger bus was travelling from Mumbai to Goa. According to the initial investigation, the police said the bus was travelling at a high speed, and the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle at a sharp turn in the ghat area, causing the bus to overturn.
Residents rushed to the spot after hearing the loud crash. Local people, along with police, took the injured to the nearby hospital. Of the 38 injured, at least 10 are said to be in critical condition, reported FPJ.
Massive Traffic Jam Due to Long Weekend
Heavy traffic congestion was reported on the Mumbai–Goa highway on Friday morning as thousands of vehicles headed towards the Konkan region of Maharashtra for the extended Good Friday weekend. Delays stretched several kilometres past Panvel and along the Pune Expressway stretch, with jams reported up to Verna in Goa.
