In a major breakthrough in the Goregaon party drug case, Mumbai Police have arrested a key drug supplier from Kalyan. The accused, identified as Anand Patel, was detained from his residence with the assistance of Khadakpada Police after a prolonged effort.

According to police sources, Anand Patel allegedly supplied drugs in South Mumbai on April 11. The event, attended largely by college students, reportedly saw open consumption of drugs. The incident turned tragic when two students — a 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man — died due to suspected drug overdose. Both were students of reputed colleges pursuing medical education. Additionally, a 25-year-old woman is currently battling for her life in the ICU.

Acting on specific intelligence that the accused was hiding at his residence in Kalyan, a Mumbai Police team reached the location past midnight between Monday and Tuesday. Senior officials from Kalyan Police, including Deputy Commissioner Atul Zende and Khadakpada Police Station officers, were alerted and assisted in the operation.

The police team, led by officers from Khadakpada Police Station, intercepted Anand Patel’s father near their residential complex. Initially, he attempted to mislead the police by claiming that his son was out of town. He also allegedly tried to flee, raising further suspicion.

Subsequently, the police reached the eighth floor of the building where the accused resided. Despite repeated attempts, the family initially refused to open the door, forcing the police to persist for nearly an hour. After sustained pressure and a warning from the police, the father convinced his son to open the door.

Anand Patel was taken into custody immediately upon opening the door. Police noted that he had recently celebrated his birthday, with relatives staying over at the residence at the time of the raid. After completing formal procedures, Khadakpada Police handed him over to Mumbai Police for further investigation.

Investigators believe that Anand Patel played a crucial role in supplying drugs at the Goregaon party. Preliminary findings suggest that students had directly contacted him for procuring narcotics. While the accused has claimed to be a builder by profession, police suspect that drug distribution at parties was his primary illegal activity.

Police sources have also revealed that multiple cases have been registered against his father in the past. Authorities suspect that the accused may have been involved in drug distribution across Kalyan and nearby areas as well. Further investigation is underway to uncover the larger network and identify other individuals involved in the racket.
