Mumbai: Labourer Killed by Falling Iron Rod at Construction Site in Parel
A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday at the Tata Hospital premises in Parel, where construction of a new building is underway. A 40-year-old labourer lost his life after an iron rod fell from the fifth floor and pierced his head.
The deceased has been identified as Vivek Singh (40). Following the incident, Bhoiwada Police have registered an FIR against the construction company and individuals associated with the site.
The accused have been identified as site engineer Shailesh Sahebrao Yadav (Ahluwalia Construction), supervisor Uddeshwar Chandradev Mehta (Kushwaha Enterprises), supervisor Vishwambarnath Buddhiram Pandey (Ahluwalia Construction), and labourer Pinku Satish Tarai.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Ragasudha R, the incident took place at around 9:30 am. Singh was heading upwards from the ground floor at the construction site when an iron rod allegedly slipped from the hands of worker Pinku on the fifth floor. The rod fell directly onto Singh’s head and penetrated it, causing fatal injuries.
Singh was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have registered a case of negligence, citing lack of proper safety measures at the construction site. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
