Suburban train services in Mumbai experienced temporary disruption on Monday after a man allegedly under the influence of alcohol lay down on the railway tracks at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), officials confirmed. The incident unfolded in the afternoon when the individual positioned himself between the rails, leading to a brief interruption in operations at the busy terminus. Sources stated that the 3:28 pm Panvel–CSMT local train reduced speed after the motorman noticed a man stretched out on the tracks, partially covered with a white cloth. Acting swiftly, the motorman halted the train in time, averting a potential tragedy and limiting delays to a short duration.

Railway authorities said the man was first spotted around 3 pm near Platform No. 1 of the terminus. The approaching suburban service was immediately stopped at a safe distance to prevent any harm. Staff members and officials quickly reached the spot and removed the individual from the tracks. Following his removal, normal train movement gradually resumed at the station. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the episode. Officials added that legal proceedings are being initiated against the man under Section 147 of the Railway Act for trespassing on railway property.

In other train-related news, a ticket checker (TC) risked his own life to save an elderly passenger from a potentially fatal accident at Kurla railway station. The dramatic rescue, captured on CCTV, has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread praise for the railway staffer’s swift response. Realising the seriousness of the situation within seconds, the on-duty TC dashed toward the senior citizen without hesitation. The footage shows him firmly grabbing the elderly man and pulling him away from the edge, preventing what could have turned into a tragic mishap.

The incident occurred when a Thane–CSMT local train was entering Kurla station. As the train was slowing down but had not yet come to a complete stop, the elderly passenger attempted to alight. Owing to his age and the heavy rush of commuters inside the compartment, he lost his footing and began to tumble dangerously close to the moving train. Noticing the fall, the alert TC immediately intervened and managed to pull him back onto the platform, ensuring his safety.
