A major mishap was averted in Mumbai’s Kandivali area after a car allegedly went out of control and mounted a footpath in the Thakur Complex locality during the early hours of Tuesday night, May 13. No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred in a busy residential neighbourhood. The accident drew attention after a video from the spot began circulating on social media. The footage showed a red Skoda Slavia positioned dangerously at an angle between a roadside structure and the footpath. Residents in the area gathered near the scene after noticing the damaged vehicle suspended awkwardly following the late-night crash.

The viral video showed the car’s front portion stuck against the roof of a small roadside structure, while the rear end remained hanging close to the edge of the footpath. Visible damage could also be seen on the back side of the vehicle carrying registration number MH 47 BK 2354. The impact of the collision appeared severe enough to partially lift the vehicle onto the structure. The clip was shared by an Instagram page called ‘Unaesthetic Mumbai’, which claimed the accident occurred around 3 am near a sharp turn in the Thakur Complex area after the driver allegedly lost control while taking the bend. The post also mentioned that a minor was driving the car

According to details mentioned in the social media post, the person driving the car is believed to stay near the accident spot. The post stated that the driver lost control at the turn, causing the vehicle to climb the footpath and crash onto the small shop structure. It further claimed that the driver’s father arrived at the scene within minutes of the accident. Police personnel also reportedly reached the location soon after being informed. However, the post alleged that officers left after the car owner arrived at the site. There has been no official confirmation from authorities regarding these claims or the exact sequence of events.

People quoted in the social media post claimed that the airbags deployed immediately during the crash, preventing serious injuries to those inside the vehicle. However, officials have not confirmed how many people were travelling in the car at the time of the incident or whether anyone sustained minor injuries. Fortunately, no pedestrians were present on the footpath when the accident occurred. In a crowded residential locality such as Thakur Complex, the incident could have resulted in a major tragedy had passersby been nearby. Locals expressed concern after seeing the dangerous position in which the vehicle remained stuck after the collision.

The incident has once again sparked debate over reckless driving and overspeeding in Mumbai’s residential areas during late-night hours. Residents have raised concerns about motorists speeding through internal roads despite the presence of housing societies and pedestrian movement. As of now, Mumbai Police has not issued any official statement regarding the exact cause of the crash or whether any case has been registered in connection with the incident. Authorities are yet to confirm if the driver was questioned or whether CCTV footage from the area will be examined as part of the inquiry into the accident that narrowly avoided a serious disaster.
