Mumbai: Man Arrested For Stealing Rs 30 Lakh From Girlfriend’s Home in Sakinaka After Dispute

In a shocking incident reported from the Sakinaka area, a 43-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing valuables worth nearly ₹30 lakh from his girlfriend’s residence after she refused to lend him money. The accused, identified as Mazhar Ahmed Ramzan Ali Ansari, was apprehended by Sakinaka Police from Ghatkopar.

According to Police Sub-Inspector Suhas Kande, stolen gold and silver jewellery worth approximately ₹27 lakh has been recovered from the accused.

The complainant, a 35-year-old woman originally from Kolkata, has been residing in Mumbai for the past 16 years and currently lives in Sakinaka. She works as a bar singer at a local establishment. Ansari, who had been in a relationship with her for several years, was a regular visitor to her residence and was aware of her financial savings and valuables.

Police said the woman had purchased gold and silver jewellery and coins from her earnings and had also saved cash, which she kept in a bag inside her cupboard. She was planning to buy her own house and had been saving money for the same.

On April 12, the woman left for work at around 7 pm, leaving her house empty. When she returned at approximately 1:30 am, she found her house ransacked. Upon checking, she discovered that a bag containing ₹3.5 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery was missing. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be around ₹30 lakh.

She tried contacting Ansari, but he did not respond. Subsequently, she approached the Sakinaka Police and lodged a complaint against an unknown person. A case of theft was registered, and senior officials directed an immediate investigation.

During the probe, suspicion fell on Ansari as he was aware of the valuables and had frequently borrowed money from the complainant in the past. Recently, she had stopped lending him money. When questioned about his whereabouts on the day of the crime, Ansari claimed he was in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Call records initially supported his claim, but inconsistencies in his statements raised suspicion.

Acting on this lead, PSI Kande and his team detained Ansari from Ghatkopar for questioning. Initially, he denied involvement, but later confessed to the crime during sustained interrogation.

Police revealed that Ansari had planned the theft after learning that the woman intended to travel to Kolkata with her cash and jewellery. Using a spare key to her flat, he entered the house after she left for work, ransacked the premises, and fled with the valuables.

To mislead investigators, he booked a flight ticket to Ajmer using a secondary mobile phone to create an alibi. However, he returned to Mumbai within a few hours, exposing the deception during the investigation.

Based on his confession, police recovered gold and silver jewellery worth ₹26.95 lakh from him. Ansari was produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody.

Further investigation is underway.
