Mumbai New: Gas Leak Triggers Cylinder Blast at a Chawl in Malad; Seven People Injured

Mumbai: Major Fire broke out in a residential chawl near Malvani Gate No. 8, close to A.C Masjid and beside Bharat Mata School in Malad West on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 morning around 9:25 am. According to preliminary information, the cause of fire was gas Cylinder blast due to gas leakage in chawl. The incident was reported at 9:25 a.m. by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Fire Brigade (MFB).

As per the initial information, blast occurred due to a gas leak in a room on the first floor of a ground-plus-two-storey structure. The impact of explosion was so strong that it affected the cylinder’s main valve, gas stove, LPG cylinder, AC sheets, household items, eatables, and a mattress. In this incident, seven people got injured, in which four have been admitted to Aadhar Hospital, and three are receiving treatment at Care Hospital.

Following the fire, the BMC’s Fire Brigade, local police, electricity distribution staff, 108 ambulance services, and ward officials rushed to the scene. The fire was successfully extinguished within 17 minutes, at 9:42 a.m.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution with LPG cylinders and ensure regular maintenance to prevent such accidents.
