Mumbai: Three Arrested for Assaulting Police Constable During Footpath Eviction Drive

In a shocking incident at Chandanwadi, three members of a family allegedly assaulted Police Constable Vijay Maruti Bhingardive while he was taking action against unauthorized occupants on the footpath. The accused verbally abused him and thrashed him with punches and kicks, leaving him injured.

Following the attack, LT Marg Police arrested the three accused, including a woman, for obstructing a government officer from performing his duty. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sonu Vijay Manodiya, Vijay Vallabh Manodiya, and Sunny Vallabh Manodiya. They were later produced before the Esplanade Court.

Constable Vijay Bhingardive, a resident of BDD Chawl and posted at LT Marg Police Station, was part of a special squad carrying out an eviction drive against footpath dwellers near Chandanwadi and a BMC school in Marine Lines. The operation was in line with directives issued by senior officials to all police stations on Saturday.

During the drive, Sonu Manodiya, along with Vijay and Sunny, confronted Bhingardive. The trio allegedly abused and pushed him, attempting to obstruct the police action. When their attempts failed, they turned violent and assaulted the officer with fists and kicks, causing injuries.

Upon receiving information, additional police officers and personnel rushed to the spot. The three accused were arrested and charged under sections related to obstructing a public servant and assaulting a police officer. The case is currently under investigation.
