Vasai-Virar Shocker: Mentally Unstable Man Beheads Sister With Sickle, Injures Mother in Nalasopara
A shocking incident came to light in Vasai-Virar region of Palghar district in Maharashtra near Mumbai, in early hours Tuesday, February 24. The horrifying case reported from Taki Pada in Nalasopara East, a mentally unstable man allegedly attacked his sister with a sickle and beheaded her inside the Sarvodaya Colony. The mother, who rushed to intervene, was also attacked and is critically injured. This is the third murder reported in the region within a week, creating an atmosphere of fear and anger among residents.
Supriya Kanade (35), a resident of Saidham Welfare Chawl, was at home early in the morning when she got into an argument with her brother, Ajit Malushte (40). According to neighbours, the dispute started over a minor issue but escalated into violence within moments. In a fit of rage, the accused picked up a sickle and repeatedly struck his sister. Police said preliminary investigation suggests Supriya was beheaded after receiving deep wounds to the neck and chest. Pool fo blood was found at the scene.
When the mother tried to save Supriya, the accused attacked her as well. She is seriously injured and undergoing treatment at the municipal hospital. Tulinj Police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. While there are reports that he was suffering from mental illness, police said medical verification and an investigation into the motive are underway.

The spate of murders in the Vasai-Virar belt has raised serious concerns about law and order. A few days earlier, a minor boy in Vasai had killed his aunt, and recently, a youth was murdered in a gang clash on a busy road in Nalasopara. Against this backdrop, the latest brutal killing has intensified the sense of insecurity among citizens.
Despite claims of increased patrolling and crime-prevention measures, the streak of violent incidents shows no signs of slowing. Residents feel that family disputes, gang rivalries and uncontrolled anger are making everyday life increasingly unsafe. There is growing demand for urgent and concrete action from authorities to restore law and order and rebuild public trust.
