The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested two accused from Borivali Railway Station in connection with a bomb-throwing incident outside an ashram in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
The case was registered at Baharampur Police Station on May 14, shortly after the election results in West Bengal were declared.
The arrested accused have been identified as Rocky Khan (24), a resident of Kandi Hotel Para and a driver by profession, and Sahadat Sarkar (35), a resident of Natun Pura village who works as a labourer.
After completing legal formalities before the court, the Mumbai Crime Branch obtained a two-day transit remand and will hand over both accused to the West Bengal Police.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by a grocery shop owner from Majiherpara.
According to the complaint, Ali Hussain alias Laden, Hasan SK, and three unidentified accomplices were allegedly involved in the incident and are currently absconding.
As per the complaint, unidentified persons had allegedly torn photographs displayed on an electricity pole near the Maa Durga temple located close to the ashram on May 12.
Subsequently, on the night of May 13 at around 10:45 pm, the accused and their associates allegedly hurled socket bombs into an open ground near the ashram.
The complaint further stated that on the morning of May 14 at around 10:30 am, the accused allegedly arrived at the complainant's grocery shop on a motorcycle and threatened him with further bomb attacks if the matter was reported to the authorities.
During the police investigation on May 15, it was revealed that the accused had allegedly fled to Mumbai on the Gitanjali Express in an attempt to evade arrest.
