BDDS cop Dhurve achieves rare feat
Nagpur, Nov. 4
Generally throughout the year we found that policemen are busy doing their duty and hardly get any time to pursue their hobbies. But some cops are exceptions to this. Even in their busy schedule they spare some time for their hobbies. City cop Sukhdeo Dhurve, attached to Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), is one of them.
Very passionate about swimming he has made his department as well as the city proud by figuring in the India Book of Record along with his family members for a rare sea swimming expedition.
Last year Dhurve family consisting of international swimmer Sukhdeo, wife Vaishali, son Sarthak and nine-year-old daughter Tanvi had created a new record by swimming 16-km distance through relay between Elephanta to Gateway of India in Mumbai within 4.31 hours.
India Book of Record has taken the cognizance of their record. After verifying all the facts, they issued a certificate and medal to Dhurve mentioning that Dhurve is the only family in India that has achieved this feat.
Elated over the rare achievement Dhurve ,a regular member of Kamgar Kalyan Mandal said “ In future I want to complete the expedition successfully at English channel and at Lanka to India Palk strait. I want to start the preparation for the future expeditions but unfortunately swimming pools are closed. I would like to urge the State government to re-open the swimming pools so that swimmers like me would restart their regular practice”, he said.
It can be be mentioned here that individually Dhurve who is originally belongs to Kondhali has already successfully completed 36-km Dharamtar expedition in Arabian Sea in 2008 and then one of the toughest Strait of Gibraltar (Spain to South Africa) 25-km expedition in 2009, 25 km Revas to Gateway of India in 2013, Sunk Rock to Gateway of India 5 km expedition etc.His son Satthak has participated in several state and national-level water polo competitions along with sea expeditions. He last year got Rajratna award instituted by Mudhoji Bhonsale Pratishthan. His wife Vaishali is also a national-level swimmer and won the medals in school national and state and national-level events.Narayana Vidyalayam student Tanvi so far has clinched 10 gold, ten silver and ten bronze medals at various district level competitions. She also has good experience in sea swimming.
