The Nagpur Municipal corporation (NMC) has decided to develop at least one ground in each assembly constituency of Nagpur city with a view to provide basic facilities to the sportspersons to hone their skills.
Accordingly, the NMC Sports Committee chairman Pramod Tabhane has visited each assembly constituency as has identified five grounds. The grounds that will get the facelift include Marartoli Football ground (West Nagpur), Adarsh Vinkar Coloney (Central Nagpur), Chowkoni sports ground and Yuva Sanskrutik Krida Mandal (South Nagpur), Central excise Lay out ground (South West Nagpur) and Vidarbha Housing Board Coloney ground (East Nagpur).
Meanwhile in North Nagpur the NMC officials had identified Guru Govind Singh Stadium but since the land belongs to NIT, the NMC skipped the idea to develop it and are searching for alternate ground.
Talking to Lokmat Times NMC sports committee chairman Pramod Tabhane said, “ I personally visited all the grounds and inspected it. Soon we appoint the engineers to chalk out the estimate of each venue and after that tendering process will start”. Tabhane said the cost of the total project would not be more than Rs 1 crore and NMC has the required funds to finish the project.
He said, “ The main requirements on all the grounds are leveling the playfield, installation of green gym equipment, separate toilets for ladies and gents, maintenance of boundary wall, floodlights and a new gate to the ground etc”.
In this regard when contacted mayor Dayashankar Tiwari he said, “ NMC sports committee has completed all the groundwork of the project and the tender will be floated soon. We have enough funds for this project and I am hopeful that it will be completed soon”.

Only announcements will not serve a purpose: Gudadhe-Patil
Senior corporator Prafull Gudadhe-Patil has raised doubt over the intention of corporation. While talking to Lokmat Times he said, “ The NMC has already made lot of announcements but hardly impalement any. Has the NMC made budgetary provision for the development of grounds? Secondly, the NMC has not declared officially which grounds they are going to develop.”
