Nagpur, June 7

Finally, after around two and half months the outdoor sports activities started in the city under 'Break The Chain'. The activities were on hold during the second wave of Covid-19 forcing the athletes to remain confined to their homes.

On Monday a number of athletes returned to the RTM Nagpur University track, divisional sports complex track etc and spend time in physical exercise.

Talking to Lokmat Times director of Department of Sports and Physical Education of RTM Nagpur University Dr Sharad Suryaanshi said, “ We have opened our athletics track and football ground for the players. On Monday some athletes and football players turned up in the morning and evening session. The karate and gymnastics have also started in outdoor facility”, he said .

NDHTA too opened the MSLTA Tennis Academy, Ramnagar, for tennis players. In the mornings the academy will remain open from 6.00 am to 9.00 am and in the evenings from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm. The academy will be open all seven days of the week.

Nagpur District Hardcourt Tennis Association (NDHA) has resumed its training at Ram Nagar court.

Dr Rajesh Singhvi, General Surgeon, who is a regular player, said he is overjoyed and looked forward to playing his favourite sport. Sejal Bhutada, emerging talent from Nagpur in the U-12 girls, is a ranked player and was missing her daily routine. Now she will feel confident as tournaments are lined up for her across the country. Sai Bhoyar who is a national ranking player in U-18 was seen at practice in the morning, and will soon leave for her round of tournaments. Veteran player Ganesh Kshirsager, was overjoyed to resume his daily practice sessions, which basically is like going to a temple. Architect Subodh Sathe, who is a regular player alongwith his entire family, used to practice at his residence in a makeshift arrangement during the lockdown, and is delighted to be back on the courts.
