‘Record freight movement by SECR from April’

The South Eastern Central Railway (SECR) has registered a record increase in the freight movement and parcel despatch in the first six months of this financial year.

This freight movement and parcel despatch by Commerce Department of SECR shows marked increase over the corresponding period last year under the leadership of SECR drm Shobhana Bandopadhyay, sources said.

The Commerce Department of SECR worked in a mission mode during Covid-19 crisis during this period.

From April 1 to October 8, the SECR recorded ninty per cent increase in rack movement, 86 per cent rise in wagon movement, 85 per cent rise in tonnage and 124 per cent rise in revenue receipts.

During this period, the SECR transported 118 racks of fly ash, 25 racks of iron ore, steel, quartize and foodgrains.

Despatch of coal also rose from about 37 per cent to 66 per cent during the first quarter as compared to the corresponding period last year.

This coal movement is also about 66 per cent of total coal transported by all other means- which is also beneficial from industry and environment point of view.
