Nagpur, April 29

The city is already witnessing unprecedented crisis due to shortage of oxygen and people are not getting oxygen even though they are ready to pay money. On the other hand tress, which are free source of oxygen are being ruthlessly chopped taking advantage of the dark in night at Ambazari garden.

It has been observed that tree felling in the park has been going on continuously for a week. Environmentalists have lodged a complaint with the Lokmat Times.

The work from Dharampeth College T-Point to Amravati Road has been going on for the last few months. Besides, some development works are also underway in Ambazari Garden area and tress are being cut for that. The surprising fact is that the trees are being cut in the night. Nilesh Nagolkar, an environmentalist, told this newspaper that the trees were being cut down at night and loaded into a truck. The cut trees are covered with leaves and shrubs, so that people do not notice. Nagolkar said that the activity is being done from last seven days.

NMC Garden department unaware

The Garden department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation is ignorant and unaware of this. It is said that the NMC Garden department has given permission to cut 1,000 trees in the area.

However, when asked about this, a senior official said that he did not have any information about the tree felling in Ambazari. He assured to look into the matter and investigate, but there are serious doubts on the same.

But environmentalists say it is very unfortunate and shameful to cut down trees that provide oxygen. It is feared that this will make the dense green cover of Ambazari to fade away.
