Nashik: 1,266 Rickshaw Drivers Penalised for Violating Traffic Norms

In a major action against unruly and rule-violating rickshaw drivers, the Nashik City Traffic Control Branch has launched a special drive across the city. Within just five days, action has been taken against 1,266 rickshaw drivers for violating various traffic norms.

Action Breakdown:

• Driving with passengers in the front seat – 367 cases
• Unregistered (unnumbered) rickshaws – 16 cases
• Drivers not wearing the required uniform – 722 cases
• Other violations – 161 cases

The city relies heavily on auto-rickshaws for public and private transportation. However, complaints about rickshaw drivers violating traffic rules and engaging in unruly behavior have been increasing. In response, the police launched this crackdown on March 13, 2025, targeting rickshaws operating without proper registration, uniforms, or safety measures.

During the drive, many drivers were found without uniforms or seat belts, and some were operating without proper documentation. The police have warned of stricter action in the coming days if these violations continue.

Authorities have urged rickshaw drivers to follow regulations and ensure passenger safety, as the campaign will continue to maintain discipline on city roads.
