Ambedkar Jayanti 2026 Holiday: Stock Market to Schools; Check What's Open And What's Closed on April 14

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated every year on April 14 to honour the introducer of the Indian Constitution, Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. He spent his whole life fighting against inequality cast based discrimination. On this day, people across India and the world pay tribute to his legacy through events and public gatherings. 

This year, Ambedkar Jayanti will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. On the occasion, several institutions, including government offices, schools across the country will remain closed. Here's all you need to know what will open and what will remain closed.

Public Holiday 

April 14, 2026, has been declared a public holiday by the Union Government. In a yearly calendar, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), marked the date as a bank holiday in most states and regular banking services will not be available to the public. 

School and Office Holiday

Holiday has been declared to all colleges and schools, including government, public, private, aided and non-aided. All government offices, including industries, have declared a holiday for their employees.

Bank Holiday on Ambedkar Jayanti

Bank holiday on April 14 will be in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Agartala, Belapur, Bhubaneswar, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada. However, customers can still use mobile banking, ATMS, banking services such as mobile apps, internet banking, SMS, and WhatsApp banking for their needs. ATMs will continue to operate normally.

Stock Market

Trading in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed for the day. This means there will be no buying or selling of shares.

Essential Services Will Stay Open

Services such as medical facilities, hospitals, ration shops, and private offices may remain open depending on local rules.
