Andhra Pradesh Bus Fire Death Toll Rises to 14, 23 Injured After Private Bus Collides With Truck; CM Naidu Condoles Deaths

The bus fire incident death toll rose to 14 and 23 people were injured after a private bus collided with a tipper and caught fire in Markapuram district on Thursday, March 26. The hapless passengers were trapped inside the burning vehicle.

Markapuram Superintendent of Police (SP) V Harshavardhan Raju said, "Fourteen people died in the accident and 23 injured persons have been shifted to hospital, including the driver. Efforts are on to gather complete details of the incident."

According to officials, the impact of the collision led to a fire in the bus, leaving several passengers trapped. Many of the victims were charred to death. The bus, carrying around 35 passengers, was travelling from Jagityal in Telangana to Kaligiri in Nellore district at the time of the accident. The driver of the tipper lorry also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.

“Honourable Chief Minister Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the road accident that occurred near Rayavaram in Markapuram district. He conveyed profound grief over several passengers in the bus being burned alive in the incident where a tipper collided with a private travel bus. He spoke with officials and gathered details. Officials informed that this bus, belonging to Harikrishna Travels, was traveling from Nirmal in Telangana state to Nellore. He directed officials to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the accident and submit a report,” said CMO Andhra Pradesh.
