Andhra Pradesh Tragedy: 3 Girls Swept Away by Strong Current at Mullungummi Waterfall in Alluri Sitharama Raju

Three teenage girls tragically lost their lives after drowning while attempting to take photographs at a waterfall in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Thursday. The incident occurred at Mullungummi waterfall, located near Burja panchayat in Hukumpeta mandal. According to reports, five girls from Jambavalasa village had visited the scenic spot during festival holidays. The group had gone there to enjoy the outing and capture moments on their phones. However, what began as a casual trip soon turned into a heartbreaking incident that shocked the local community and raised fresh concerns about safety at such tourist destinations.

As per police officials, the girls were busy taking selfies and recording videos near the waterfall when three of them climbed onto a large rock situated in the middle of the flowing stream. In a sudden mishap, they lost their balance, slipped, and fell into the water. Nearby locals immediately rushed to their aid and tried to rescue them, but the forceful current made it difficult to reach them in time. The strong flow swept the girls away, leaving bystanders helpless. After a search operation, their bodies were eventually recovered from the water, confirming the tragic outcome of the accident.

The deceased girls were identified as Trisha, aged 17, Ratna Kumari, 16, and Pavitra, also 16. The remaining two girls who were part of the group managed to escape without any injuries. Following the incident, police personnel along with revenue authorities arrived at the location and took charge of the situation. The bodies were later shifted for postmortem examination to determine further details. Officials have registered a case in connection with the incident, and an investigation has been initiated to understand the circumstances that led to the drowning.

Authorities noted that despite warnings, many tourists tend to venture into risky areas for photographs and videos, increasing the chances of accidents. Local residents have urged the administration to take stronger preventive measures, including installing more warning signs, setting up barricades, and deploying police personnel at popular tourist locations to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
