BJP condemns Pragya Thakur's remark on Godse, expels her from defence panel
Bharatiya Janata Party has condemned MP Pragya Thakur's remarks on Nathuram Godse, the killer of Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament. BJP Working President JP Nadda said that the BJP condemns the remarks of Lok Sabha MP Pragya Thakur, the party never supports such statements. Nadda said, Pragya Thakur will not be allowed to attend the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting during the Parliament session. BJP executive president JP Nadda recommended the removal of Pragya Thakur from the defense affairs advisory panel.
On Wednesday, Pragya Thakur created controversy by making a comment when DMK member A Raja was quoting the statement made by Nathuram Godse before the court as to why he killed Mahatma Gandhi. After the opposition members protested over Thakur's remarks, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that only the statement of the DMK leader will go on record while discussing the SPG (Amendment) Bill. The Lok Sabha Secretariat later issued an official statement saying that Thakur's remarks were 'not recorded'.
Raja said that Godse had admitted that he had grudge against Gandhi for 32 years before deciding to assassinate Gandhi. Raja said that Godse killed Gandhi because he believed in a particular ideology. While opposition members were protesting against comments passed by Thakur, BJP members requested her to sit down. After this, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that only the statement of A. Raja will be kept on record. Later, during the discussion on the bill, Gaurav Gogoi of Congress also strongly objected to Thakur's remarks and demanded that she should apologize for it.
