Central Railway and Western Railway increase price of platform ticket to Rs 50 from Rs 10 to prevent crowding at railway stations. This has been done at all major stations of Mumbai, Pune, Bhusaval, Nagpur and Solapur divisions.  The price will vary depending on the size of the station, but it will be Rs 50 at big stations such as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai, a Central Railway spokesperson said.

Meanwhile,  22 low occupancy trains have been cancelled till March 31. According to a notice released by the Central Railways board, while some trains have been completely cancelled, others have had their frequency reduced. However, Central Railways maintains that local trains in Mumbai will not be closed for now.
