Chennai Rains: Heavy Rainfall Lashes City and Suburbs; Light to Moderate Showers Reported in Several Tamil Nadu Districts
Heavy rains lashed several parts of Chennai on Wednesday, April 16 bringing much-needed respite from the heat. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of IMD, the downpour is expected to continue in city and its suburbs until 1 pm today. According to the weather department, the rainfall is attributed to a low-level atmospheric circulation prevailing over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Tamil Nadu districts. Additionally, the interaction of easterly and westerly winds in the lower atmospheric layers over South India contributes to the wet conditions.
