"It was found that the accused was travelling to different cities in order to evade arrest. Teams were sent to different locations to nab the accused. The location of the accused was finally found in New Delhi in Kashmere gate area, where he may have been trying to travel further," a Goa Police spokesperson told reporters.

"In coordination with local police staff of Delhi, he was apprehended in Kashmere Gate area. Remand for the accused will be sought in due course," the spokesperson also said.

Ganguly has been booked under sections 461, 354, 376 and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 8 of the Goa Children's Act and Sections 6 and 8 of POCSO Act.

A First Information Report was filed against him at the Mapusa police station in North Goa, after a video showing him allegedly molesting a minor girl, went viral on social media, even catching the attention of Union Minister of State for Sports Kiren Rijiju, who had demanded strict action. The location or the date when the video has been shot is still not known.

Ganguly has already been dismissed as a chief coach by the state swimming association and banned by the Swimming Federation of India.
