In a major announcement The Indian Railways on Thursday announced cancellation of all regular trains till August 12.“It has been decided that regular time-tabled passenger services including Mail/Express, passenger and suburban services stand cancelled up to 12.08.2020,” the Railway Board said in a notification.

“It has also been decided that all the ticket booked for the regular time-tabled trains for the journey date from 01.07.20 to 12.08.20 also stand cancelled.”All tickets booked for the regular time-tabled trains from July 1 to August 12 also stand cancelled and full fares will be refunded. All special Rajdhani, mail and express trains that started operating from May 12 and June 1, however, will continue to operate. After Indian Railways resumed passenger train services in the country in a "phased" manner with 15 pairs of trains from 12 May, 2020, the national transporter is now running another 200 special trains since June 1.

The latest announcement, however, does not affect the 230 special trains run by the government to transport migrant workers, the railways board said. The Railways earlier said it will provide a full refund for all regular tickets booked before or on April 14, 2020. The regular train tickets booked for a date 120 days after April 14, 2020, will be cancelled and the IRCTC will initiate a full refund. The IRCTC also advised passengers to not cancel their tickets in case it cancels trains.
