COVID-19 Update: India reports 38,949 fresh COVID cases, 542 deaths

India reported 38,949 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, as per the health ministry’s July 16 update. There has been less than one lakh new coronavirus cases for the last 38 days.

As many as 542 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, new recoveries at 40,026 in the same period, the July 16 update stated. 

Among states, Uttar Pradesh administered the most (cumulative) vaccine doses at 3.95 crore, followed by Maharashtra at 3.82 crore and Gujarat at 2.87 crore.

The active cases have now come down below 5 lakh. India now has 4,30,422 active cases as per the July 16 update. The active cases constitute 1.39 per cent of the total cases.

Kerala has the highest number of active cases at 1,19,513 in the country followed by Maharashtra at 1,10,505, Karnataka at 32,406, Tamil Nadu at 29,950 and Andhra Pradesh at 25,526. 

Maharashtra reported the most 170 new deaths, as per the July 16 update, followed by Kerala (87), Odisha (66), Tamil Nadu (49) and Karnataka (48). 

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli/Daman and Diu, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Nagaland and Rajasthan did not report any deaths today.

The total recoveries in India now stand over 3,01,83,876 with the recovery rate at 97.28 percent, as per the health ministry’s July 16 update. 

Kerala recorded the most new recoveries at 12,370, followed by Maharashtra at 7,391, Karnataka    at 3,188, Tamil Nadu at 3,006 and Andhra Pradesh at 2,933

Total COVID-19 deaths in India now stand at 4,12,531 as per July 16 update. The mortality rate is now at 1.33 percent.

India commenced its COVID-19 vaccination drive on January 16 this year. Till date, 39,53,43,767 vaccine doses have been administered so far including 38,78,078 in the last 24 hours, under the nationwide vaccination drive.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 44,00,23,239 samples have been tested up to July 15 for Covid-19. Of these, 19,55,910 samples were tested on Thursday.
