Delhi Police dismantle mobile theft racket; chain snatchers held in separate case
New Delhi, April 13 In two separate operations, Delhi Police have cracked down on street crime in the South-West and Dwarka districts, arresting key accused involved in mobile theft and chain snatching cases.
The actions led to significant recoveries and the solving of multiple cases, according to official press releases issued on Monday.
In the South-West District, the staff of Police Station Sagarpur arrested two accused, Ayush alias Nikku and Abhishek, for their involvement in a mobile phone theft and dismantling racket. Police recovered 15 stolen mobile phones, an ASUS laptop, a Lenovo tablet, a charger, and dismantled mobile parts from their possession. Four theft cases registered at Police Station Sagarpur have been worked out through this operation.
According to the press release, “a dedicated team… was constituted… to curb mobile theft cases in the area.” Acting on complaints, the team apprehended Ayush near Durga Park and Nagarvan Park on April 10, recovering two stolen phones. His interrogation led to the arrest of co-accused Abhishek, who was found with additional stolen devices and parts.
Police revealed the modus operandi, stating that Ayush stole mobile phones and supplied them to Abhishek, who dismantled them and sold the parts further. “Efforts are underway to identify the kingpins, suppliers, and the entire network behind this illegal supply,” the release said.
In a separate case, the Bindapur police of Dwarka District arrested two snatchers involved in a gold chain snatching incident near Uttam Nagar West Metro. The accused, identified as Chandan (36) and Rohan Seth (22), were tracked after analysing over 250 CCTV cameras.
Detailing the operation, police stated that the accused were identified through extensive analysis of CCTV footage and technical surveillance. “The police… identified the motorcycle rider, who was also the owner of the bike,” the release noted. The stolen gold chain was partially recovered from Rohan’s residence, along with the motorcycle used in the crime.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the crime due to financial distress and unemployment. The case, registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), has been successfully worked out.
Both cases highlight Delhi Police’s intensified efforts and “zero tolerance towards crime”, with further investigations ongoing to uncover broader criminal networks.
