Delhi Hit-and-Drag: Zomato Delivery Rider Killed After Speeding Car Hits Him in Subhash Nagar

A gig worker, associated with food delivery company Zomato, was killed in the early hours of Saturday, February 21, in Delhi. According to the news agency IANS, the accident took place inthe  Subhash Nagar area of the National Capital when a speeding car hit the delivery rider.

Delhi Police told IANS that the delivery rider died on the spot after the car struck him at around 4.30 am. Police reached the spot and sent the body to the hospital mortuary, said police. According to information, the driver was drunk. The injured worker was taken to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Hem Shankar, a resident of Raghubir Nagar, who sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. 

According to India Today, a PCR call received by Delhi Police, reporting an accident and an injured person, was received at Tilak Nagar police station at around 3.26 am on February 21. A police team rushed to the spot on Najafgarh Road, towards Rajouri Garden, where both vehicles involved in the crash were found.

According to an eyewitness, a Hyundai Verna car struck the scooter of a delivery boy from behind. The accused car driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and tried to flee the scene after hitting the delivery rider. 

The accused, identified as Mohit Kumar (27), a resident of Najafgarh and an MCD contractor, was immediately taken into custody. The car involved in the accident has been seized, and an FIR has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station.
