The Election Commission has earlier rejected the demand of political parties to postpone the Bihar Assembly elections. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora reiterated that the Assembly elections in Bihar will be held on time, and that the poll panel is making preparations keeping in view the Covid-19 situation.

Election Commission of India has organized a press conference at 12.30 pm over Bihar Elections, said Sheyphali Sharan, Official Spokesperson of ECI.

Bihar Assembly election dates are likely to be announced at this press conference. The last election was held in five phases. But this time due to coronavirus pandemic elections could be held in Bihar in three phases, said sources.

The number of polling booths has also been increased to ensure social distancing. To curb the spread of the virus the number of polling staff has also been increased.

Other political parties, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Lok Janshakti Party in Bihar, had demanded that the Assembly polls be postponed. The Lok Janshakti Party had said in a letter to the commission that it would not be appropriate to endanger the lives of millions of people by holding elections at this time.
