Fire Breaks Out at Rajshree Apartment in Gwalior; Fire Brigade and SDRF Launch Rescue Operation
A major fire incident was reported at the Rajshree Apartment located in the Khurja Wala Mohalla area of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The blaze broke out in a medicine warehouse on the ground floor of the residential building, which houses nearly 20 families. Fortunately, all residents were evacuated safely before the situation worsened. According to officials, the fire started in a medical storage facility where medicines, ink, and medical surgical waste were kept. Firefighters rushed to the spot and managed to bring the flames under control after an intense firefighting operation. However, thick smoke inside the building created breathing difficulties, making it challenging for rescue teams to immediately enter the affected area.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, CSP Manish Yadav said that all families living in the building had been safely evacuated. “Firefighters and the SDRF team were engaged in the rescue operation. Chemicals stored inside are also being removed to prevent the situation from worsening,” he said. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, though officials suspect it may have been triggered by a short circuit.
The blaze was so intense that three fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames. In addition, a chemical firefighting vehicle was also used to spray special agents along with water to control the fire. The four-storey apartment building contains multiple flats where around 20 families reside, all of whom were safely evacuated during the incident.
Residents described the panic during the fire. Lakshmi Rathore, who lives in the building, said the situation became frightening as smoke spread rapidly. “When the fire broke out, everyone panicked. We couldn’t go downstairs, so we ran towards the terrace. Smoke was also coming from the mobile tower equipment on the roof. We were terrified, especially with children around. Some children were even passed to the neighbouring building’s terrace to get them to safety,” she said.
Residents later informed the Gwalior District Collector that a diesel generator used for mobile towers had been placed inside the building’s warehouse, even though such equipment should ideally be kept outside the residential structure. Following these complaints, the collector directed officials from the municipal corporation to investigate the alleged safety lapses and take appropriate action.
Authorities have confirmed that the fire is now under control, and further inspection of the site is underway. No casualties have been reported so far.
