The government of India is considering grounding the flight of Dreamliner 787-8 manufactured by Boeing after a deadly crash in Ahmedabad, which has claimed the lives of over 250 people, including local residents. As per reports, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is conducting the security reviews of American wide-body airliners. The discussions regarding this between the US company and the Union government are underway.
One of the sources aware of the matter told NDTV that the decision will be taken after the investigation. It is also said that Air India may face scrutiny over its safety protocols and standard operating procedure for aircraft maintenance. Air India uses Boeing 787-8 for long flights to the UK and North America.
In a Thursday tragedy, where Air India London-bound flight AI-171 belonging to Boeing Dreamliner flee crashed seconds after take-off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Only one survivor was found, out of 242 passengers and crew members onboard survived the crash.
An aircraft which has lost altitude soon after taking off at around 1.30 pm and crashed into the BJ Medical College and hostel, after which black smoke plumes out of the structure up in the air. The pilot had issued a 'Mayday' distress call, denoting a full emergency, soon after takeoff, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Ahmedabad said.
Avialaz Consultants CEO and aviation Expert Sanjay Lazar said, "Based on the videos seen during takeoff, it appears that the pilot issued a mayday call immediately after takeoff, indicating engine power failure. It might have been caused by a massive bird ingestion or a catastrophic engine failure. The aircraft began to collapse after reaching around 625 feet and slowly crashed onto the college building."
