Karnataka Road Accident: Six Killed as Car Collides with Bus, Catches Fire in Yadgir

Six people were killed in a horrific road accident in Karnataka’s Yadgir district on Friday after a car collided head-on with a private bus and burst into flames. All six occupants inside the car were charred to death, while two others were rescued with serious injuries. One of the injured victims is reported to be in critical condition. The tragedy occurred near Devapur in Surpur taluk under the jurisdiction of Surpur Police Station. The incident has once again highlighted the rising number of fatal highway crashes in the state, especially those involving vehicles catching fire after impact.

According to police officials, the car was travelling from Yadgir towards Raichur when it crashed into a private bus heading from Bengaluru to Kalaburagi. The collision was extremely severe, triggering an immediate fire that engulfed both vehicles within seconds. The car was quickly reduced to a burnt wreck, leaving the passengers trapped inside with no opportunity to escape. The intensity of the crash and the rapid spread of flames made rescue efforts extremely difficult, contributing to the high number of fatalities at the scene.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as flames rapidly spread following the collision. Local residents rushed to the spot in an attempt to save those trapped inside the burning vehicle. Amid the panic, they managed to pull out two individuals just moments before the fire completely consumed the car. Both injured persons were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment for severe burn injuries. Their condition remains serious, with one of them battling for life under close medical supervision.

Fire and emergency response teams arrived promptly at the accident site and worked extensively to control the blaze. Despite their efforts, both the car and the bus sustained heavy damage due to the fire. Authorities cordoned off the area to prevent further risks and ensure smooth rescue operations. Police personnel also reached the spot and began preliminary inquiries into the incident. The identities of the deceased victims have not yet been established, and officials are working to inform their families.

A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials stated that more information will emerge as they analyse the sequence of events leading to the fatal collision. Traffic movement in the area was temporarily affected as firefighting and rescue operations were carried out. Authorities are also examining whether factors such as speed, driver error, or mechanical failure played a role in the crash.

The incident comes months after a similar tragedy on December 25, 2025, when a private sleeper bus travelling from Bengaluru to Gokarna caught fire following a collision with a truck near Hiriyur in Chitradurga district. That accident, which occurred on National Highway 48 in the early hours, resulted in at least six deaths and left 28 people injured. The victims included Bindu V, her daughter Grema, Manasa, Navya, Rashmi Mahale, and the truck driver, who was reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, underscoring ongoing concerns over road safety.
