The RG Kar Hospital doctor rape and murder case in Kolkata has garnered significant media attention in recent weeks. On Sunday, junior doctors protested outside Swasthya Bhawan. In response, the Bengal government agreed to talks with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to address the situation at RG Kar Hospital. On Thursday, the protesting junior doctors announced they would attend the meeting at the state secretariat by the 5 pm deadline. Now according to sources, it is said that Mamata Banerjee has also offered to resign if it would help the public and ensure justice in the doctor's murder case.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, "I am ready to resign from the Chief Minister of West Bengal. I am not concerned about the post. I want justice, I am only concerned about justice getting served."

The Chief Minister's offer to resign came shortly after doctors protesting the brutal rape and murder incident at RG Kar Medical College refused to meet with her. The state government had agreed to record the meeting, but the doctors insisted on live streaming it. The Chief Minister stated, “I tried my best to meet with the junior doctors. I waited three days for them to come and resolve the issue. Even after they rejected the Supreme Court’s verdict, I waited with my top officials, including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DG, and my Minister of State.”

She apologized to the public and the supporters of the doctors, saying, “I am sorry. Please continue to support them. I have no issues with that. We want justice for the common people and for their treatment. As per the Supreme Court’s instructions, they must return to their duties.” She added that despite the Supreme Court’s order three days ago, the state has not taken disciplinary action, explaining, “Sometimes we must tolerate; it is our duty to tolerate.” Banerjee mentioned that she waited for two hours at the state secretariat, Nabanna, but did not receive a response from the protesting doctors. West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant emphasized that the state had made arrangements to record the meeting to ensure everything was well documented.

“We have prepared recording arrangements to document the entire proceedings. There should be trust between both parties. We want to listen to them and work towards the same objective. I don’t understand why live streaming is necessary. We are committed to documenting everything and discussing it properly,” Pant said.
