Liquor Shops to Remain Shut on April 16 for Good Friday: Delhi Govt Issues Dry Day Notice

Liquor shops across the national capital will remain closed on April 16, 2025, in observance of Good Friday, as per an official notice issued by the Delhi government’s excise department. The closure comes under the list of designated ‘dry days’ in the city, during which the sale and service of alcohol is strictly prohibited.

According to the excise department’s recent order, the directive falls under Rule 52 of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, which mandates the enforcement of dry days on certain religious and national occasions. Good Friday, which is a significant day for the Christian community, marks one such occasion.

In addition to Good Friday, the notice has also declared other upcoming dry days in April and beyond, including Buddha Purnima and Eid-ul-Zuha. These holidays will see a city-wide ban on the sale of liquor, including in conspicuous and licensed premises such as bars, pubs, clubs, and hotels. Authorities have instructed all license holders to comply strictly with the directive, warning that any violation could result in penalties or suspension of licenses.
