On the wake of the rising number of cases within the state Parents of Central Board of Secondary Education, or CBSE, and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, or CISCE, students have demanded that the remaining exams be cancelled. With Unlock 1 now effectively in place in India, and the rising number of COVID-19 cases, several people have raised concerns. According to a report published in Quint, a decision is likely to arrive in the next few days. Several parents have launched an online campaign hashtagged “studentlivesmatter”, “livesoverexams” and “cancelboardexams”.

Given the risks involved in conducting the exams, the governments of the three states of Punjab, Telangana and Tamil Nadu have cancelled their state board exams for Class 10 for the year 2020. Even the international boards, IBDP and IGCSE have cancelled their exams owing to COVID-19. Meanwhile, reports are also doing the rounds that  a decision could be taken on conduct of final-year college and university examination. Earlier,  Union HRD Minister had confirmed  that final-year degree exams would definitely be conducted. However, with the number of cases increasing alarmingly, there is likely to be a change in stance of the authorities.
