Mucormycosis: Drug Amphotericin B used to treat black fungus to be available for Rs 1200

There has been an increasing trend of rise in black fungal infection in the last few weeks being seen among those recovering from COVID-19 with several states reporting an increase in the cases of black fungus.

The problem is exacerbated by the availability of drugs for this disea. In this situation, due to the efforts of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the production of injection on mucormycosis has started in Wardha. Amphotericin B Emulsion Injection has been manufactured by Genetech Life Sciences in Wardha. Therefore, it will be a great help to the country in the fight against mucorrhoea. 

According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's office, it was being produced by only one company so far and available for Rs 7,000. The injection will, however, will be now available for Rs 1200.

Genetech Life Sciences has become the second company to manufacture these injections. This will eliminate the shortage of injections. Amphotericin B Emulsion Injection is currently in short supply in the market. One injection costs Rs 7,000. However, the cost of the injection made by Genetech Life Sciences will be Rs 1,200. Delivery of injections will start from Monday.
