Over 30 Fall Ill After Suspected Food Poisoning at Wedding Feast in Uttar Pradesh
More than 30 people, including children and elderly guests, were hospitalised after suspected food poisoning during a wedding feast in Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday evening in the Lalapur locality of the Dewa area during the wedding ceremony of Mohammad Nazim, a resident of Khijna village. According to health officials, guests started experiencing severe stomach pain, nausea and vomiting shortly after consuming the food served at the event.
Witnesses said several attendees complained of discomfort within about half an hour of eating non-vegetarian dishes prepared for the wedding celebration. As more guests began falling ill, panic spread at the venue and families rushed the affected people to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Medical teams attended to the patients, many of whom included children and elderly individuals. Officials said most of those hospitalised are currently under observation, and their condition is reported to be stable.
Authorities have begun investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning. Samples of the food served at the event are expected to be examined to identify possible contamination.
Such incidents of mass illness linked to wedding feasts have occasionally been reported in rural areas, where large gatherings and bulk food preparation can sometimes lead to food safety issues. Further details in the case are awaited as the investigation continues.
