The nationwide lockdown has rendered many jobless. Many are fighting coronavirus and hunger at the same time.

A tea stall owner near Nizamuddin area in Delhi said that getting food for his family has become difficult during Ramzan time. His family is unable to break their fast as they don't have food to eat.

For many it is impossible to store the cooked meals that are provided by the state authorities as it is distributed at fix timings. Many people have complained that, despite the government orders, ration shops were not distributing food items to people without ration cards. This has left the poor helpless as they are not able to store the cooked meal for iftaar and neither they are getting ration so that they can make something for themselves.

Shoaib, a resident of Ashok Nagar in Delhi, where the riots too place and a mosque was vandalised said, “we have only got the initial compensation from the government till now. During the riots our shops were burnt and looted. By the time we could think of standing on our feet again, the lockdown started. So we shifted to a relative’s place. Here we are sharing resources and observing roza. With limited cooked meals being provided, it’s difficult to support large families. So we can only depend on each other somehow for Ramzan this year.”
