Seven Workers Killed in Gurugram After Wall Collapse at Construction Site

Seven workers lost their lives after an under-construction wall collapsed inside the Signature Global housing project in Sidhrawali, Gurugram, on Monday night. Officials said the incident occurred when a group of around 12–15 labourers were working on a sewage treatment plant (STP) at the site. According to authorities, the wall suddenly gave way, burying several workers under debris and caved-in soil. Fellow workers at the site, along with passersby, initially began rescuing the trapped labourers by hand before teams from the police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the fire brigade arrived and took over the operation.

A senior official alleged that although the collapse took place around 7 pm, police were informed only at about 9:30 pm. “So far, seven bodies have been recovered, while five injured workers are currently undergoing treatment,” the official said. Rescue teams continued to clear debris late into the night amid concerns that more people could still be trapped. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.

The injured workers were rushed to Bhiwadi District Hospital in neighbouring Rajasthan. Hospital in-charge Dr Sagar Arora confirmed that seven workers were brought dead and said the preliminary cause of death appeared to be asphyxiation. Police in Bhiwadi stated that the bodies reached the hospital between 10 pm and 10:30 pm. Based on identity cards recovered from them, six of the deceased were identified as Indraji Sada (32), Bhagirath Gopi, Chhotelal Sada (37), Shiv Shankar (31), Shivkant Chaudhary (47), and Mangatram (32), all of whom had addresses listed in Manesar.

Officials said the victims were employed in various roles at the site, including helpers, fitters and machine operators. Authorities also warned that the death toll could rise as more details from the site continue to emerge. Bhiwadi Superintendent of Police Prashant Kiran said Haryana Police had been informed and had taken over the investigation. Sources at the site revealed that a private contractor had been engaged for the STP construction work. Following the collapse, bouncers were reportedly deployed at the location to restrict media access.
