Strong thunderstorms in Agra damage India's pride Taj Mahal

One of India's most famous monument The Taj Mahal  suffered minor damages after a thunderstorm lashed across Agra on Friday evening. At several places, the pillars fell on the ground causing damages to the walls, platforms, doors and windows of the Taj Mahal. Damages were also caused to a ticket window, and metal detectors installed at the gates. More so, the thunder storm also killed  at least three people leaving 25 persons injured. 

In 2018 the iconic monument suffered damages due to thunderstorms. Many cars were damaged as walls and trees fell on them. About 20 houses were damaged and power supply was affected for a few hours. The damages were confirmed by Ankit Namdev, the Archaeology Survey of India’s Conservation Assistant at the Taj Mahal. Namdev revealed that repair work will soon be undertaken after assessment of losses. The thunderstorm also damaged crops adding more misery to the state, which is already under the threat of locusts attack.
