A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri has filed a police complaint accusing her husband of dowry harassment, physical and mental abuse, and engaging in alleged “unnatural relations” with other men. According to the FIR, police booked the accused husband under section 85 and 351 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
According to India Today report, complainant identified as Rupali Gupta, said that she married Shivam Gupta, a resident of Etah district, on February 19, 2024, in a Hindu ceremony in Mainpuri. She claimed that her family spent Rs. 1cr on the wedding, including cash, jewellery and other items, but her husband remained dissatisfied and continued to demand an additional Rs. 50 lakh as dowry. The FIR states that Shivam Gupta, an MTech graduate and executive engineer in Mumbai earning approximately Rs 2.5 lakh monthly, visited home every 15 days. His wife alleges that after their marriage, he subjected her to constant mental and physical harassment related to dowry demands. His disinterest in physical intimacy led her to install hidden cameras in their apartment.
The footage from June 21, 2025, allegedly revealed Gupta inviting men to their home and engaging in objectionable and "unnatural" acts, causing her severe mental trauma. When confronted, Gupta allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter, which initially prevented her from filing a complaint. She claimed her initial police complaint was rejected, and an FIR was only registered after she appealed to senior officials. The police are investigating, led by a sub-inspector, and examining evidence, including video footage, to determine appropriate legal action.
