UP: Spa centres sealed in Rampur after irregularities found during raids

Rampur (Uttar Pradesh), April 3 A joint team of local administration and police conducted a series of raids on multiple spa centres operating in the Civil Lines police station area of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, following complaints of alleged immoral activities and violations of licensing norms.

Acting on directives from Superintendent of Police Somendra Meena, the operation involved coordinated efforts by police and municipal authorities.

The inspection drive was carried out by a team comprising the City Magistrate, officials from the Municipal Council, the Fire Service, the Mission Shakti team, and personnel from the Civil Lines police station, led by SHO Omkar Singh. According to officials, the objective was to verify compliance with regulations and investigate complaints of suspicious activities being conducted under the guise of spa and massage services.

During the raids, several spa centres were inspected, their staff questioned, and official records examined. Authorities found that a number of establishments were operating without mandatory approvals, including No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Municipal Council and the Fire Department, as well as other required licences. In light of these violations, multiple spa centres were ordered to shut down immediately, and further legal action has been initiated.

The spa centres identified in the crackdown include Rose Therapy Spa Centre on Ganna Society, Gold Classic Spa and Salon at Awas Vikas, Golden Hands Spa Centre at Friends Colony and Shaukat Ali Road, Mango Spa Centre on Shaukat Ali Road, and Priyanka Leaf Spa Parlour Centre on LIC Road, all located in different parts of the Civil Lines area.

Officials stated that no objectionable material or individuals involved in illegal activities were found during the raids. However, the administration has placed the inspected centres under surveillance and said that investigations are continuing to ensure compliance with regulations and to prevent any unlawful practices.

Despite the official outcome, questions have surfaced about the operation's effectiveness. Local discussions have been fueled by allegations that information about the raid may have been leaked in advance, which, if true, could explain why no immediate irregularities were detected on site. Authorities, however, have not confirmed any such claims and have reiterated that action was taken strictly based on verified complaints and procedural checks.

Police have warned operators to adhere to all legal requirements and have emphasised that strict monitoring will continue in the coming days. The administration has also indicated that further inspections may be conducted if necessary, as part of an ongoing effort to regulate such establishments and address public concerns in the area.
