Mohit had arrived in Chandigarh three days earlier to compete in the championship. He was competing in the 85 kg category and had won his first-round match. He was leading in the second round when his health suddenly deteriorated.
During the fight, both Mohit and his opponent fell outside the ring. They got back up and re-entered the ring to resume the match. As the referee instructed them to continue, Mohit walked toward his opponent but collapsed. Efforts to revive him failed.
